University Utara Malaysia (UUM) is set to send a team of golfers to Brive-La-Gaillerde, France, for the 16th World University Golf Championship that will be commenced on 22nd to 26th of June 2016.
The event is
mainly recognized for its prestigious organization and the biggest university
golf tournament in the world as many countries will send their best university
golf team to participate.
The training
session is conducted by UUM National Golf Academy (UUMNGA) head coach, Wan
Rosni and his assistant, Hilmi Mahmud.
The training
ground for the players are provided inside the campus which they have a well
maintained practice green, fully functional driving range, indoor golfing
simulator and biomechanics equipment, and nine holes golf course open to
public. Another nine more holes are still in construction which expected to be
completed by next fall.

players are also required to be involved with the specially arranged fitness
training four times a week according to their respective group schedule.

also have a monthly performance log to observe the player’s progress and expose
them to play recognized amateur championships and professional tournaments for
advance preparation.
The selection
for the 16th World University Golf Championship will be based
on the player’s overall performance and two days NGA Trial. The final decision
will be made by the the Ministry of Higher Education.
UUMNGA Director
Prof. Madya Dr. Azman Yasin said UUMNGA’s goal is to bring home the desired
medals as the Malaysian men’s team narrowly missed by losing five strokes to
Japan (par) which have dropped them on fourth place last year in Crans-Montana,
Switzerland.
Besides that,
UUMNGA also targets to promote the university golf program throughout Malaysia
and worldwide.
In addition, the
University Utara Malaysia (UUM)’s Center of Sport Excellence was pinpointed for
developing golf and collaborated with Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) through
the National Golf Academy’s degree programs, which was already set-up in
2011.
